Greetings Sunshine Family,

This is your Week 1 Newsletter for the Sunshine Summer Camp! Our theme for the first week is Into the Wild! Students will spend the week learning and creating projects about the amazing animals on our planet! 

We hope you are all as excited as we are to start the Sunshine Summer Camp on Monday, June 15th! You may view the roster for Week 1 here: Week 1 Summer Roster

A reminder that Sunshine will be closed on Friday, June 19th to observe the Juneteenth holiday. 

Summer Camp Checklist
Please be sure the following items are complete before your child's first day at the program:

  • Complete your Summer Required Forms
  • Make your tuition payments by June 10th
  • Complete your child's Brightwheel profile (emergency info, allergies, authorized pick-up, etc.)

Spirit Day on Wednesday, June 17th!
The first Summer Spirit Day is on Wednesday, June 17th! Celebrate Animal Day by coming to Sunshine dressed as your favorite animal! Students may also bring their favorite stuffed animal or dress in attire featuring animals!

Below are some important reminders and information for families to read over. Thank you for your cooperation and staying updated with the Sunshine School newsletter!

  

School Event

                                                         

For the first week - All Classes will be attending an on-campus Animal Assembly by Bay Area Wild Group on Thursday, June 18th at 1:15pm. Students will have a chance to meet some interesting wildlife and gain an insight into the secret lives of these intelligent and ecologically important animals. Animals featured will include the Opossum, Tarantula, Vulture, and Boa (may change due to animal's condition).

  • Please arrive to Sunshine no later than 1:00pm on this day.
  • For this school event, please remember to have your child pack a lunch and wear their Sunshine T-shirt
  • AM/PM PART TIME STUDENTS: Part-time students who wish to participate in the field trip / school event may contact our program director at (408) 839-8366 or email us at summer@mysunshineschool.com to check for availability. 
  • Field Trip & Event Policy - If a student misbehaves during their field trip or school event, they are not allowed to attend the next week's field trip or school event as a consequence.
Summer Camp FAQs

Which class should my child(ren) go to?
Sunshine Summer Camp assigns the students into different age groups according to the grade that they are entering in Fall 2026. You may view the roster for Week 1 here: Week 1 Summer Roster

  

  • All grade level classrooms will be located on the Ruskin School Campus this year including TK & Kindergarten.
  • Classes are subject to change depending on weekly enrollment.  
  • Please use the following campus map to find your child's classroom and entrance gate: Campus Map
  • The Sunshine Summer Office will be located in Room J4. Please do not enter or ring the bell of the Ruskin Office. 

Where do I drop off my children in the morning?
On the FIRST DAY of the program - Monday, June 16th

  • You will spot Sunshine Staff at the entrance of Gate 6 (1401 Turlock Lane, San Jose, CA 95132). Here, we will sign-in your children, pass out name tags and Sunshine t-shirts, as well as complete any missing paperwork. If you arrive after 9:30am on the first day, please check in at the Sunshine Office (Room J4). Please ring the bell at Gate 6 for entry.  
  • Please use the following campus map to find your child's classroom and entrance gate: Campus Map       

After the first day of the program - Tuesday, June 16th and onward

  • Parents may drop their children off directly at the appropriate classroom. 
  • Gates will remain open until 9:30am every morning. If your child arrives after 9:30am, please ring the doorbell at the gate to alert staff of your arrival.
  • Gates will remain closed for the rest of the camp day.  

Please be sure to check-in with a Sunshine teacher when dropping off and picking up your child(ren). 

Does my child have to sign in and sign out when he/she comes to Sunshine?
Our teachers will be signing students in and out everyday through the Brightwheel App. All families should have an active Brightwheel account to check their child's attendance status throughout the day. 

What are the hours and tuition for Summer Camp?

  • Soccer - Week 3 (June 29-July 2) | 8:30am-11:30am
  • Soccer - Week 8 (August 3-7) | 8:30am-11:30am

As a friendly reminder, please drop off and pick up your child within your child's registered enrollment time. If a child is dropped off earlier or picked up later than their scheduled time, families shall be assessed a fine of $1.00 per minute for each minute early/late.      

How do I sign my child up for Chinese Class?
Sunshine Summer Camp offers free Chinese Class biweekly beginning on Week 2 of the Summer Program. Registration is now open, and families may register using the following form: Chinese Class Sign-up. Families must submit a registration form in order to be added to the class.              

What should my child(ren) bring to Summer Camp?
Please be sure to pack the following items for your child(ren) everyday:

  • sunblock and a hat (labeled with your child's name) 
  • a refillable water bottle
  • two sets of bowls and a cup (labeled with your child's name) for breakfast, lunch, and snack time (Sunshine wants to go green! Help us in our efforts to become less wasteful!)
  • a bagged lunch and wear Sunshint t-shirt (on field trip and school event days).
  • TK/Kindergarten & 1st grade students will need to bring one change of clothes to keep at Sunshine in their cubby

What is the lunch menu?
The menu for Week 1 is listed below!

  • Monday: chicken fried rice
  • Tuesday: chicken nuggets with carrots and broccoli
  • Wednesday: pizza (pepperoni and cheese)
  • Thursday: Pack your own lunch! (School event!)
  • Friday: NO SCHOOL (6/19)

How do I stay updated with news about the Sunshine Summer Camp?
Sunshine School will broadcast frequent newsletters via email and Brightwheel to keep parents updated. Please let your classroom teacher know if you are not able to receive our newsletter. We will also provide announcements and reminders through Brightwheel and on our white board that will be posted by Gate 6. Don't forget to take a look at the white board for daily news when you drop-off/pick-up your child!

Who should I ask if I have questions, comments, or suggestions?
Please call the Sunshine School Office at (408) 839-8366. You can also email us at summer@mysunshineschool.com. The Brightwheel App is the best way to communicate with administration and teachers during your child(ren)'s time at the program.
